Lawrence “Larry” Lewis Chouinard passed away on Sept. 26, 2021.
He was born in Motley, Minnesota, on April 25, 1942, and ended his journey on earth in Powell. Many are proud to have known him as a kind friend, one who tried to better himself as life carried on. He was tough, resilient, hardworking, self-sufficient, the definition of the iconic Western man.
Larry’s real home was in the mountains, lakes, streams, and plains. He was an avid hunter, trap shooter and fisherman, but also active in more dangerous sports, such as stock car racing, team roping, steer wrestling, demolition derby and go kart racing.
Larry didn’t want to burden others with his trials and wouldn’t allow his pains to worry his friends and family, but was grateful to have family by his side in his last moments. He finally found the perfect fishing spot, saying “come find me when you’re ready,” grabbed his pole and creel, filled his chest with a large, easy breath, and carried forth with strong legs and a grin.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Lois Funk and Lawrence Frederick Chouinard; stepfather Douglas Leon Chouinard; his brother Ronald Chouinard; and sister Vickie Lynn (Chouinard) LeRoy.
Larry is survived by his sons, Shawn (Kelli) Chouinard and Justin (Carly) Chouinard; daughter Shelley DeSonia Lammers; sisters Sheila (Chouinard) Stricker, Darla (Brad) Brown, Kay (Tim) Tuttle; brother Douglas Chouinard; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at the Elks, at 581 N. Clark Street in Powell, on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 4 p.m.
