Anne Dorman, 90, died Nov. 2, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at the Powell Hospital following a fall and hip surgery.
Born in Lansford, PA on Nov. 12, 1919, Anne was the daughter of Thomas and Eva Guida. In 1943, Anne was working as an industrial nurse in a bullet factory in Brooklyn, New York, when she met the love of her life, Lewis Henry Dorman. Lewis was stationed in the Coast Guard in New York and on April 13, 1945 they were married.
The young couple moved to Powell in 1946 to be near family. Over the years Lewis worked in Eddie McCoy’s shoe store, graduated in Northwest College’s first graduating class and worked for Amoco Oil Company. Many people remember Anne as Dr. Kattenhorn’s nurse for all those years.
While Anne always called Powell her home, it is not the only place she lived in her almost 91 years. Asia, Africa and Alaska were just some of the exotic locations they called home. She will be remembered for the wonderful stories she shared about her travels. All her life she was known for her genuineness, generosity and stories. She was a faithful member of St. Barbara’s Church in Powell.
Anne is survived by her brother-in-law Duane (Beulah) Dorman; her nieces and nephews, Verla (Ted) Mangun, Dorman (Sharon Ann) Land, Evelyn (Roy) Schneckloth, Mickey Perna, Denise McMahon, Lawrence McMahon, Sandra Coye, Barbara Franck, and F. Jean Ficke. She will also be missed by many grand nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Henry Dorman; her parents; and her siblings, Marie, William, Thomas, and Katherine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at St. Barbara’s Church in Powell, with a Vigil Service at Thompson Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The family has requested the condolences be sent to them online at www.thompsonfuneral.net. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
