Barbara Plumb Hansen died Tuesday April 3, 2012 at the Powell Valley Hospital, at the age of 88, surrounded by her family. She was born November 24, 1923 in Greeley, Colorado to Charles and Isabella (Huffsmith) Plumb. She attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley. She moved to Powell with her sister, Fran, and was a valued employee at the First National Bank.
Barbara met her future husband, Richard ‘Dick’ Hansen, on the steps of the Methodist Church in Powell. They were married on September 27, 1953 in Greeley, Colorado. She farmed along side her husband on their homestead on Heart Mountain. She loved working in her flowerbeds and sharing her flowers. She had a beautiful smile and quick wit. She loved to sing and had a lovely voice.
Barbara was Wyoming’s first female president of Farm Bureau. She was an active 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church and Mountain View Circle.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter Joan, and sisters Marjorie O’Farrell and Frances Dunleavy.
Barbara is survived by her husband Dick Hansen; sisters Charlotte Mundy of Elbert, CO, Annabel Glenn of Greeley, CO and Agnes Weinstein of Cheyenne, WY; daughters Ann (Mark) Copenhaver of Powell, WY, Jayne (Len) Haggen of Holiday, FL and Sharon Hansen of Billings, MT; and son Gary (Maureen) Hansen of Renton, WA; grandchildren Zach (Abbey) Copenhaver of San Tan Valley, AZ, Sarah Copenhaver of Puyallup, WA, Weston Haggen of Orlando, FL, and Jeff Hansen of Renton, WA; one great-granddaughter Macy Copenhaver and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Powell. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
