Bertha attended grade school in Gann Valley and graduated from Gann Valley High School in 1928.  She attended Yankton College, Yankton, South Dakota, and received her BA degree in 1931.  Bertha returned to Buffalo County where she taught in elementary school for six years.

On November 21, 1936, Bertha married Carl Edward Krog, newly-elected County Treasurer of Buffalo County.  They lived in Gann Valley for ten years, during which time four children were born:  Wanda Smith, Fresno, CA, Karen Hoffman, Powell, WY, Donald Krog, Kailua, HI, and Roger Krog, Houston, TX.   In 1946, the family moved to a farm north of Gann Valley where they lived and farmed until 1994 when Bertha’s husband passed away.

In 1995, Bertha moved to Powell, Wyoming, to be near her daughter, Karen.  She was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church at Gann Valley, a 50-year member of Zephyr chapter #157 of the Order of Eastern Star and long-time member of Lady Helpers and Farmers Union.

Bertha is survived by her four children, son-in-law Jerald Hoffman, daughter-in-law Mary, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, daughter-in-law, Dixie Krog, her parents and her two sisters, Lettie Rawson and Edna Baker and their husbands.

Services will also be held at the Gann Valley Congregational Church in Gann Valley, South Dakota on Thursday. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
