Betty S. Brandt, 91, died Friday, February 10, at the Rocky Mountain Manor.  She was born August 28, 1920 in Powell, Nebraska to Benjamin and Fern (Helvey) Steele, sixth of twelve children.  She attended school thru Seventh grade in Nebraska when she moved to Powell, WY at age 14, living with her sister Opal (Walt) Buchli. She forged her age obtaining a work permit to get a job at the Seed Company in Garland.  Betty worked a variety of jobs, doing what she could to help raise herself.  In January of 1938 she married the love of her life, Russel Dean Brandt.  They were married for 72 years when Russel passed away in 2009.  From that union they were blessed with two daughters; Rhoda Jean and Judy.  Betty worked at different jobs in the area including working on the family farm, however; her career consisted of cooking at the local schools where she enjoyed being head cook at Westside for 20 years.  Betty enjoyed many activities including quilting, needlework, gardening, traveling, dancing, family meals and playing cards.  You could see her artistic ability at many of the craft shows where she would sell various types of dolls.  Betty and Rusty spent many days at the Buffalo Bill Reservoir, where they had a trailer at the boat club for 20 years.  They also spent many years wintering in Yuma, Arizona.  
Betty is survived by her sister; Josephine (Bob) Needles, brother; Dale Steele, daughter; Judy Bennett, grandchildren; Tia Campbell, Zane Bennett, Tara (Dave) Schell, Tanna (Darold) Brown, Russ (Diane) Whitlock, Rebecca Whitlock, Jodie (Terry) Warchola, Tye (Jayme) Whitlock, 30 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Rhoda Jean Whitlock, husband; Russel Dean Brandt and nine of her siblings.
Cremation has taken place with Memorial Services to be held March 3rd at 11:00am at the funeral home.  Thompson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
