Clarence Orville (Babe) Reed died May 17, 2011 in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the age of 86. He was born May 14, 1925 south of Powell, Wyoming to Niles and Anna (Hartman) Reed. He attended Powell schools graduating in 1943. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He served on the USS Russell DD 414 during the liberation of the Philippines. After the service, Clarence attended the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1950. In the summer of 1948, he worked at Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park where he met Betty Ellen Loberg. They married on November 9, 1948. After college he taught high school vocational agriculture in Riverton, WY. They purchased a farm on the Willwood South of Powell where he farmed until retirement.
Clarence served on many boards including the Willwood Irrigation District, Wyoming State Board of Agriculture, American Legion Post 26, Methodist church, Homesteader Museum and others.
Clarence helped form the Powell Veterans Honor Guard where he served at many funerals and Memorial Day Services.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Wilbur Reed and a grandson. He is survived by his wife Betty, Sister Deloris Good of Powell, son Tom (Donna) Reed of Powell, son Charlie (Donna) Reed and daughter JoEllen Cline of Cheyenne. Grandchildren Trent Reed of Powell, Darcie Reed of Stevensville MT, Evie (Nathan) Brennan, Larissa Reed and Jenny Cline of Cheyenne, Katrina Reed of Seattle, WA, Titus Reed of Newport, RI, and Crystal Cline of Laramie, numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday May 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Powell, Wyoming. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
Memorials may be given to memorial of choice or the Methodist Church or American Legion.
