Clive Leon “Googes†Dillon died at his home in Powell Friday, Jan. 13, after a 12-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
He was born in Lovell Jan. 20, 1935, to Horace Turner and Lula Dee Dillon. Clive was the last of four children.
He married Shirley Wilkinson of Greybull on Oct. 18, 1955, and they settled in Lovell to start their family. Clive built their home with his own hands. In 1968, they moved their family to Powell.
Clive studied to become a journeyman electrician in the early 1950s, advancing to a master electrician before he retired in 2001 as a fire and electrical inspector for the State of Wyoming. In between, he worked on many major construction projects, dams and power plants from Chicago, Ill., to northern Montana, and for many years as head of the City of Powell’s Electrical Department.
A prolific reader, Clive had a particular passion for geology and the sciences. He acquired enough skills through his botany studies to develop several rose varietals. He was also passionate about gardening, lapidary and photography but probably best known for his artistic works in wood and stone.
Clive was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers, Bill and Warren (Tay).
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 56 years; sister Betty Smith of Lovell; and his four children, Nickie Proffitt and her husband Tim of Powell; Tay and wife Annette of Greybull; Tammie Spomer and husband Greg of Powell; and youngest son Flynn and his wife Kim, also of Powell.
Clive leaves nine grandchildren — Shawnna Hernandez, Shannun Spomer, Skylor Spomer, Frannie Proffitt, Heather Dillon, Ashley Dillon and Shay Dillon, all of Powell; Kelsey Brown of Cody; and Matthew Dillon of Greybull. His great-grandchildren are ChaunTay and Florencio Hernandez and Dyllun, Lynzie and Kaitlyn Spomer.
