Cody Neal Yates, age 24, was born on February 3, 1988 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of Neal and Kay Yates, and died Sunday, November 18, 2012 in a car accident in Clark, Wyoming.
Cody was a most wonderful son, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend to a family extending far beyond those who share a common name with him to include every person that he came to know in his life. He loved living in the country and cowboying more than anything. Growing up he competed in rodeo events winning numerous roping competitions in tie-down and break-away and also winning ‘All Around Cowboy†at the age of 14, 15, and 16.
Cody also loved his country and served her well earning the coveted Parachutist Wings of the Army’s Airborne at Fort Benning, Georgia. He went on to serve with 1st of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment’s Echo Company, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina from March 2007 until July 2010. During the period of December 2008 through December 2009 Cody and his unit served a tour overseas in Iraq. Some of his service decorations include: Iraq Campaign Medal with two Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and Parachutist Wings. He recently served with the National Guard. He was a soldier’s soldier.
Cody’s life was guided by a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and the strength he received though his love for Him.
Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather, Allison Yates, grandmother, Mary Yates, his grandfather, L. D. Fulbright, and many relatives and friends who are happily enjoying his company again. He is survived by his parents, Neal and Kay Yates, his grandmother, Lorene Fulbright, uncles Lynn Fulbright (Doris), Joe Shafer (Glenneth), Randy Yates (Nancy), aunt Nancy Hardy (Bill), and many cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday November 24 at 11:00 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Chuch in Clark.
