Fred James Rose passed away peacefully April 17, 2011 at the Powell Valley Care Center. Fred was born in Lebanon, Missouri on December 31st, 1917, the youngest of 6 children born to Emmett and May Rose. At an early age, Fred moved with his family to Lingle, Wyoming where his father farmed.
Fred married Velma “Betty†Rose in a double wedding ceremony on March 29, 1942 in Phoenix, AZ. They lived in California for their young married years. Betty and Fred lived in San Diego where both worked in an airplane factory during World War II. Eventually, Fred enlisted in the Army. After completion of military service, he was a machinist with Lockheed Martin. It was in San Diego that their first daughter, Judy, was born. In 1951, they pursued their lifelong dream, bought a farm in Caldwell, ID and began farming and operated a dairy. It was in Idaho that their son, Terry, was born.
In 1960, they decided to move back to their beloved Wyoming, bought a farm on Heart Mountain and together operated a very successful farming operation. It was in the Heart Mountain area that they retired. After retirement, Fred and Betty enjoyed traveling the ‘snow bird’ route and once again lived in California until their health prevented them from traveling. During his retired years he enjoyed working with rocks, cutting and polishing them for belt buckles and jewelry. Fred enjoyed fishing, although he said he always brought home more rocks he’d found than fish he’d caught. No one can deny that Fred always had the best sense of humor, including anyone in the care center where those who cared for him loved his humor and daily jokes.
After 67 years of a happy marriage, Betty preceded Fred in death in 2009 and he was the last survivor of his siblings. He is survived his daughter, Judy (Terry) Jones , of Powell, son, Terry of Cody, five granddaughters, Jennifer Melton of Scottsdale, AZ, Janelle Jones, Thornton, CO, Tanya (Travis) Hernandez, Prescott Valley, AZ, Amy Rose of New York, and Robyn Rose of South Dakota . He loved seeing photos and visits from his three great-granddaughters, Kylee Melton, Taryn and Teagan Hernandez.
As Fred’s passing and services are during Easter week, our thoughts are that the meaning of Easter is to remember that life is eternal and everlasting, and we know he is at peace.
