Just as the sun was beginning to set on a beautiful Sunday evening, Frieda Hoffmann took her last breath here on earth to be joined with her loved ones that had gone before. She was born in Ashley, North Dakota to Andrew and Katherine (Diedrich) Frey on September 10th, 1921 and passed away July 14th, 2013.
She lived a full, happy life beginning on a farm in North Dakota. She married one of the neighbor boys, a young man in uniform. Albert Hoffmann was serving in WWll. When he came home on furlough for Christmas they got married on December 27th, 1940. They remained in N. D. until the lure of Al’s brothers and the countryside called them to Powell.
Frieda and Al had three sons: Kenneth and twins, LeRoy and ElRoy. ElRoy, being a preemie, passed away shortly after birth. Frieda and their infant, Kenneth, lived with her parents on the farm until Al returned at the end of the war. After the boys were in school, Frieda worked outside of the home at various jobs. One of her favorites was cooking at Parkside School; part of her joy was seeing her grandchildren coming through the line with their trays held out. She loved to cook and feed people! And what a wonderful German cook she was!
Frieda and Al committed their lives to the Lord early on in their marriage after having moved to Powell. They valued their spiritual home at First Baptist Church where Frieda served in various capacities…Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, Choir member and hostess to the Pastors and their families for dinners. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Her husband, Albert, preceded her in death in April of 2009 as well as two sisters and one brother. Those living who will surely miss her are her sister, Hilda Vossler (Aberdeen, SD), sons Kenneth (Cordelia) and LeRoy (Linda) and 5 grandchildren, Sydney (Hoffmann) Millage, Jason, Andrew, Samuel and Troy Hoffmann. There are 11 great-grandchildren as well.
We commit “Grandma Frieda†to her Savior, Jesus, for eternity.
Services will be on Monday, July 22nd at First Baptist Church, Powell, at 2:00 pm with the viewing one hour prior. A reception will follow the service and then internment is to be at Crown Hill Cemetery.
