Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 24 at Thompson Funeral Home for Helen Louise Phillips Decker, who died at age 97 on Friday, February 17 at her home in Powell with family by her side. Helen was born in Columbia City, Indiana, December 21, 1914. She was the second of five children born to Homer L. and Effa Jones Phillips. She attended grade and high schools in Columbia City.
Helen moved with her family to Hollenberg, Kansas, in 1932, where she met her future husband, Pearl Decker. They were married November 17, 1934, in Washington, Kansas, and shared 73 years.
Helen and her husband arrived in the Powell Valley on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1934. They farmed in the area for 43 years until their retirement and then they moved into Powell.
Helen took great pleasure in fishing, making crafts, working puzzles, playing cards, tending her flowers, and hosting family and friends. Helen and Pearl were members of the Polecat Ramblers Good Sam Club and enjoyed many travels and adventures.
Survivors include daughters, Louise Taylor and Lois (Heber) Hart both of Powell and Leanna Phipps (Ernest) of Dupont, Colorado; sister Marjorie (Paul) Decker and sister-in-law Ardath Decker all of Powell.
Helen is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was also blessed with nieces, nephews, and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters, Lucille Karst and Jean Reid, her brother, Homer "Bud" Phillips, half sisters, Mildred Blanchard and Pauline Blanchard, sons-in-law Dick Lynch and Lynn Taylor.
