James L. “Woody” Haworth, 75, of Ralston, Wyoming passed away on June 24, 2024, at home with family by his side.
Jim was born in Powell, Wyoming on Aug. 22, 1948, to Ruby (Gullion) and James G. Haworth of Elk Basin. He graduated from Powell High School, Class of 1967. Jim held state swim records for the 200-meter freestyle (‘66, ’67) and 400-meter freestyle (‘65, ‘66, ’67). After graduation, Jim farmed in Ralston until he went to work in the oilfields in Bahrain. While overseas, he traveled to Scotland, Greece and the United Kingdom. Later he worked in the oilfields in Prudhoe Bay and Cook Inlet, Alaska. After moving back to Wyoming and Montana, he worked as a long-haul truck driver. During the last few years, he helped bring in the harvest.
His favorite times were time spent with family and friends, camping and fishing in the Beartooth Mountains. Jim never met a stranger. His sense of humor and teasing will be greatly missed by many who knew him.
Jim is survived by wife Beth, daughter Lesli Quint of Anchorage, Alaska, son Dane Haworth (Patti) of Cody; his stepchildren Allen Greene (Deborah) of Billings, Montana, Renee McAlpine of Ralston, and Terri Goracke (Travis) of Laurel, Montana; his grandchildren Jessica Boone, Marena and James T. Quint, James J. Haworth, Chrystian Greene, Cassidy, Bucky, and Nathan McAlpine, Marshall and Anna Goracke; and his great-grandkids Kaileah Evans and Braden Boone.
He is survived by his sisters Elizabeth (Paul) Rodriquez, Mary Watts, Vera Branstetter, and Jan (Darin) Janisch as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rowena Barr.
A family graveside service will be held on July 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, Wyoming, to be followed by a Celebration of Life luncheon at his home in Ralston, Wyoming. In lieu of flowers please donate to the City of Powell Animal Shelter.
