Jay Farrell Buxton was born on September 13, 1932, in Driggs, ID, and passed away December 17, 2012, in Provo, UT, surrounded by his family.
Farrell, was born to Orvel J. “Jack†& Estella Louise Bates Buxton and lived most of his life in Bates, Idaho. He was the third of five children.
Farrell grew up in Bates, Idaho, where he rode his horse to school and later attended Teton High School, in Driggs. He loved to participate in sports. He attended the University of Idaho where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.
Farrell served in the Army as a Medical Aidman Specialist, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, and later as part of the American Legion Post in Driggs. As part of the American Legion he was able to assist in the color guard for many military rites at funerals and Memorial Days for the past 26 years.
Farrell married Helen Jean “Jeanne†Holman on April 8, 1956, in Gooding, Idaho. They were sealed together with their children later in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Farrell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions throughout his life including a Bishopric member, High Council, a favorite as Greeter, and Temple Ordinance Worker.
Farrell & Jeanne were able to take over the family farm/ranch, which has been in the family’s ownership since 1889 that his grandfather had homesteaded. They were able to raise certified seed potatoes, had a cow/calf operation, raised alfalfa hay, and barley for many years with his sons and grandsons.
He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing in his earlier years. He loved to ride his 4-wheeler and ATV around the ranch and the mountains with his family. His joy in life in his later years was being able to attend family gatherings, and grandchildren’s sporting and extra-curricular events.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kara Jean Buxton; a sister, LaJean Dalley; and both of his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Driggs, ID; Kerry (Kathy) Buxton, of Driggs, ID; Randy (Susan) Buxton, of Downey, ID; Cindy (David) Miles, of Pleasant Grove, UT; Jack (Kristine) Buxton, of Orem, UT; a sister, Shirley Buxton, of Centerville, UT; sister, Hazel Berger, of Centerville, UT; and brother, Thomas (Lianne) Buxton, of Roberts, ID. He also has 16 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at the Driggs LDS Stake Center in Driggs on Wednesday, December 26th, from 6-8:00 pm, and Thursday morning, December 27th, from 9:30-10:45 am. A funeral will be held at the Driggs LDS Stake Center following the viewing, at 11:00 am, with Bishop Roy Moulton officiating. Burial will be in the Bates Cemetery.
