Jeanette “Jan” Louise Schuster passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sept. 17, 2023, at her home in Powell, Wyoming.
Jeanette was born to Richard and Doris Shaulis on March 13, 1947, in Powell. Her family was one of the original homesteaders of Powell. Jeanette married Jerry Schuster on Jan. 3, 1977. Jan and Jerry moved to Wamsutter, Wyoming for many years and then to Rock Springs until they returned to Powell to retire. Jan was not quite ready to retire and obtained a job at ACE Hardware where she worked for many years. She was loved and appreciated by both her coworkers and customers for her dedication, friendliness and loyalty, and remained working at ACE after her husband passed away in December of 2014.
One of Jan’s greatest pleasures was dining at Pepe’s, El Tapatio and The Skyline Café in Powell. Each knew to serve her Mountain Dew, her favorite beverage. Jan was an avid reader of Western novels and passionate of anything Native culture, arrowhead hunting, gardening and walking in the great outdoors with her dogs. She was also known for her compassion of stray cats, as she would feed and house each one that came to her door. Her happy-go-lucky presence, kindness and contagious laughter will be missed by all who crossed her path.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Schuster; her parents, Richard and Doris Shaulis; her only sister, Deloris Keller; and her aunt Irene. She is survived by her son Richard “Ricky” Shaulis, of Butte, Montana (his children, Eva, Lyle, Allen, Arron and Elisa); daughter Sherry Schuster-Baker of Cody, Wyoming; son Jerry “Pete” Schuster of Denver; son Dan (Brenda) Schuster of Cody, Wyoming; daughter Wendy Schuster-Shaw of Cody, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will take place on Sept. 29, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Glad Tidings Church, 777 East Seventh St., Powell, Wyoming, with Pastor Mike Walsh officiating. A luncheon will follow.
