Joe A Ramirez

Joe A. Ramirez Jr., a beloved member of the Powell community, passed away on Saturday, November 11th, in Lovell, Wyoming. He was born February 4th, 1939, in Powell, Wyoming, to Jose Amarante Ramirez Jr. and Seniada Garcia Ramirez.

Joe's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to family, a passion for sports, and a lifetime of dedicated work. His early years were spent laboring for various farmers before he pursued his education at Northwest Community College, earning a degree in Engineering and Surveying. This set the stage for a career spanning several reputable companies, including Berryman and Livingston Engineering, MTN Bell, AT&T, and RT Communications, culminating in a well-deserved retirement.

In 1956, Joe married Mary Helen Gonzales. For 57 years, they nurtured a loving family, raising five children, four girls, and one boy. Following Helen's passing in 2012, Joe was supported by his extensive family network, including 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Joe was deeply connected to his community and his roots in the Big Horn Basin area. His high school days were rich with sporting achievements, particularly in football and track. This reflects his enthusiasm for athletics, a passion he carried throughout his life.

Beyond his professional pursuits and dedication to his family, Joe's love for sports shone brightly. As a talented boxer in his twenties, he acquired several state championships in his weight class and later generously shared his expertise as a boxing coach for the Powell Boxing Club. His involvement in sports extended to baseball, where he coached Little League and women's softball teams, and eventually transitioned into an admired umpire, earning induction into the Umpire's Hall of Fame in 2007.

Joe's hobbies encompassed a diverse range of interests, from dancing to fishing, darts, and above all, spending cherished moments with his family. His presence, laughter, and dedication to those he loved will be dearly missed. Devoted to his faith, Joe found solace and inspiration in his unwavering commitment to God, dedicating countless hours to immerse himself in scripture. Joe served as an exemplary role model and mentor to every one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His selfless gestures towards his family, friends, and community were always acknowledged and deeply valued. He excelled in the roles of a devoted father, cherished grandfather, supportive uncle, trusted friend, dedicated coach, and respected umpire, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his twin brother, Gene Ramirez, along with his children, Mary Ann Ramirez, Linda Hansel, Donna Dominguez, Tony Ramirez, and Amy (Mike) Birdsley. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication to both family and community.
