Lorna Kay Asay
April 21, 1942 – April 22, 2011
Heavens doors opened to welcome Mom home April 22, 2011. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Lorna was born in Powell, Wyoming on April 21, 1942, the oldest of twin girls. She was the daughter of Lawrence Asay and Betty Jean ( Laing-Asay) Braig.
Lorna married Allen Mercer on May 15, 1960. To this union they had three daughters, Connie Tammy & Wendy.
Lorna married Gary E. Asay on September 14, 1985. To this union she was blessed to share in the lives of Gary’s four children, Rob, Kerri, Brandon & Jami.
Mom was a hard worker. In her early years she owned and operated Movie Theatres in Basin, WY and Powell, WY. She then went on to operate the Aqua Grow Green Houses in Powell, Wyoming. In 1985 Lorna attended and graduated from Bank Teller School in Utah. She also worked at Secure A Tronics in Cody, Wyoming and Blair’s in Powell, Wyoming.
Many of her most precious memories were family gatherings and the holidays. She had that special knack for making special occasions fun and decorated for every holiday.
Lorna was an avid bridge player, scrap booker, and a wonderful cook. She loved spending time at the cabin in Crandall. Lorna and Gary spent their most memorable times snowmobiling and riding their four wheelers. She was also a member of the Powell Eagles.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the loving staff of the Billings Heart Health Care Nurses and the Powell Hospice Care givers. We were so blessed to have such an amazing team working with us. Complete with hugs and smiles and, yes, at times, tears. We forever Thank You.
Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Asay and Betty Jean Braig. Stepfather, Jake Braig. Brothers, Tommy Braig and Mark Asay.
Lorna is survived by her husband, Gary E. Asay. Mother In-Law Betty Asay. Daughters: Connie (Curt) Stebner, Tammy (Nick) Siddle, Wendy (Chuck) Carver. Kerri (Brad) Kolb, Jami Asay. Sons: Rob (Karyn) Asay, Brandon (Diedre) Asay. Twin Sister, Laura (Jerry) Maneval, Sisters: Jackie (Bob) Drake, Dora (Royce) Peterson, Sherri Boatman. Half sisters: Shelly, Sherry & Nancy Asay. Brothers: Butch (Norma) Asay, and Terry Asay. Brother In-Laws: Doc (Kathy) Asay, and Mike Asay. 14 Grandchildren: Troy (Edie) Siddle, Kelly Siddle, Cory Stebner, Chancey Stebner, Lorraine Craver, Erica Carver, Sondra Carver, Randi Asay, Danielle Asay, Kodee Asay, Landin Kolb, Ostin Kolb, Louis Hibbs and Rylee Hibbs. 2 Great Grandchildren: Mary Carver and Rayan Carver. And several special Nieces and Nephews who were like her own children.
Mom we will miss you more than words could ever express. We know that someday we will once again get to enjoy your love and laughter.
A viewing for family and friends will be on April 28, between 6 - 8pm, at the Thompson Funeral Home, Powell, Wyoming.
A celebration of Lorna’s life will be held at the United Methodist Church in Powell, Wyoming on April 29at 10:00 am. Graveside services immediately following at the Crown Hill Cemetery.
Following internment, a reception will be held at the Powell Eagles Lodge.
