Lucy Cozzens

Lucy Cozzens, 87, died in Powell on Dec. 19, 2012.
She was born in Michigan in 1925. Lucy trained as a registered nurse and received her RN degree from the Blodgett School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Mich. Seeking new horizons and adventure, she came west to Wyoming on her way to Alaska. She worked for Dr. Lester F. Allison, a local doctor, as well as the Powell and Lovell hospitals.
While starting her career in Powell, she met and married Fred Cozzens in 1952. They raised three children together. She enjoyed camping, hunting and horse riding. The family spent many vacations on horse pack trips into the hinterlands of Wyoming and Montana.
Lucy also enjoyed making bread, reading, exchanging ideas, singing in the church choir and helping others, especially those with mental illness.
When she retired, she dedicated herself to various charities and volunteer efforts in order to help those less fortunate than herself. Lucy also traveled extensively throughout the U.S., to visit extended family and old friends.
She always kept the vision of a better tomorrow in her heart and mind and walked tirelessly toward that goal. She not only did this for herself but everyone she came into contact with.
Lucy is survived by her daughter Sue; sons AJ (Sharon) and Jim (Lisa); and three grandchildren Sean (Jeni), Tessa and Emma.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, sister Mary, brothers Austin and Dick and her fourth grandchild, Julian.
A memorial service is being planned and will be held at a later date.
Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family at www.thompsonfuneral.net or P.O. Box 807, Powell, WY 82435.
