Mark “Kid†Perkins, 56, a longtime resident of Powell, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2012. At the time of his passing, he had been 19 years old for more than 37 years. He was ugly and his mother dressed him funny.
Mark was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Amsterdam, N.Y. His parents were Jo Anne and Bernard Arndt. He was a roughneck, some would say literally, and spent the majority of his working years on drilling rigs in Montana and Wyoming. The last five years found him as a pilot car driver and small business owner of “Kid’s Pilot Car.†He enjoyed his days on the road, spending time exploring the scenery and history of the places he’d travel. Family and friends were recipients of postcards from all over the United States.
The light of his life still shines in his daughter, Gabrielle Brockett, who lives in Bellingham, Wash., with her partner, Jadyn Welch. Mark miraculously approved of Jadyn completely despite frequent promises to injure any man who came near his Princess.
His next love was motorcycles. His favorite recreational pastime was searching out and reconstructing vintage Indian and Harley Davidson bikes. Throughout his pursuit of rare bike parts, he developed powerful bonds with other motorcycle enthusiasts all over the country and made friends wherever he went. His next love was his family — those whom he loved and adopted as part of his family as well as his natural relatives.
Mark was a man of incomparable generosity whose daily routine included random acts of kindness. He was a remarkable person who lived and died on his own terms and will be remembered as one-of-a-kind.
In addition to Gabrielle, he is survived by his adopted mother, Jeanie Pearl; his sisters, Debbie Allred of Gilbert, Ariz., and Amy Arndt of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and brothers Bruce, of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Todd, of Boston.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, March 22, at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell.
An informal gathering will be held the night before, Wednesday March 21, at 7 p.m., to celebrate his life with stories and laughter. Friends are encouraged to bring photos and memories to share. Please contact Thompson Funeral home for more details regarding location. Interment will be in Powell.
