Mary “Jane†Swenson passed away on Wednesday, April 11 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Billings, Montana with family by her side. She was 86 years old.
Jane was born on May 10, 1925 to Howard and Adeline Terry in Billings, Montana.
She attended school in Billings and graduated from Senior High in 1943. During that time Jane met her high school sweetheart, George Alton Swenson. While George served his country in the army during World War II, Jane attended nursing school at St. Vincent’s in Billings and graduated in July of 1946.
George and Jane were married on July 13, 1946 in Billings. George’s job with International Harvester required moves to Sheridan, Wyoming, back to Billings, and then to Great Falls, Montana. In 1965, George purchased an implement business in Powell, Wyoming where he and Jane lived the rest of their lives.
Jane was active in the Catholic Church teaching CCD and singing in the choir. She was also a member of the League of Women Voters for many years. Jane loved being with her family and entertaining friends. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, and knitting or crocheting a blanket or sweater for family members. Jane and George traveled many places throughout their lives. Jane was always excited to take a new trip, she never met a stranger, and was kind and considerate to everyone she encountered.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband George, daughter Mary, parents Howard and Adeline Terry and grandson Brian Burnett. Jane is survived by son Terry (Val) Swenson, daughters Peggy (Gary) Burnett and Laurie (Mike) Mackey, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Powell, Wyoming on Monday, April 16, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Arthritis Foundation in Jane’s name.
