Michael "Mike" Hudson
Michael ‘Mike’ Hudson, 75, died Aug. 22, 2011 as a result of a horse accident.
Mike was born June 15, 1936 at New Underwood, S.D., to Miles and Ruth Hudson. He attended a rural country school through the eighth-grade. He graduated from Sturgis High School.
Following high school, he worked for the Sturgis John Deere dealership for several years. He joined the South Dakota National Guard and served for 24 years. Mike was in partnership with Dale Olsen in M&D Motor Inn in Sturgis. They repaired cars and tractors.
In 1965, Mike married Barbara Komes at Sturgis, S.D. They were married for 46 years.
To this union, two sons, Chris and Keith, were born. In 1974, Mike and Bob Werdel purchased the John Deere business in Sturgis and were in business for several years.
In 1977, Mike and his family moved to Powell, where he worked for the John Deere business for three years. He then opened his own used farm equipment business and was semi-retired at the time of his death. He enjoyed camping, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hunting and travel.
A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell.
