Opal Jones of Powell, died peacefully on September 7, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at the Powell Valley Nursing Home.
Opal Irene Jones was born on January 8, 1921 to Morgan & Beatrice Royal in Powell, Wyoming. Â She graduated from Powell High School in 1939 and married the love of her life, Earl Jones on January 16, 1940. Â Earl & Opal celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary earlier this year.
​They built their home in Powell and lived in the same location for 70 years where they ran a successful farming operation.
​In 1961, Opal began working for a new doctor in town, Dr. Lyle Haberland.  She worked for Dr. Haberland for 27 years and his patients enjoyed the numerous years of care and kindness she provided.
​After retirement, Earl and Opal enjoyed many years traveling from the East coast to the West coast, Alaska to Florida in their motor home, making many treasured friends along the way.
​Opal was a dedicated member of Eastern Star for more than 60 years, an active member of the Presbyterian Church, a longtime member of the Powell High School Alumni Association Board, and a strong supporter of the Travelers Music Group.
​Opal’s passions included listening and singing along with Earl and any instrument he picked up to play, dancing, cooking, baking, canning, and crafting for her family, and spending cherished time with loved ones.
​A devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother she is survived by her husband Earl of 72 years.  Her son Ron (Teddy) Jones, son, Terry (Judy) Jones, daughter Janice (Scott) Gormley, five granddaughters ;  Kapi (her beloved,Kyle) Nix, Keli (Jason) Borders, Jennifer Melton, Janelle Jones, and Tanya (Travis) Hernandez.  She was also blessed with 5 great-grandsons and 4 great-granddaughters.  Other loving survivors include her sister, Oma Jacobs, brother and sister-in-law Harley and Jean Jones, sister-in-laws, Belle Jones and Pat Jones.
​A celebration of her life will be held at the Union Presbyterian Church on September 12th at 10:00 a.m.
