Patricia Ann Smith

Patricia Ann Smith passed away on Nov. 17, 2024, with her family by her side. Patty was born on April 8, 1939 in Powell, Wyoming, to Mike and Dorothy Beier. Patty attended Powell schools, graduated from Powell High School in 1957, and then attended the University of Wyoming for one year. Patty married Ronald Burgener on Aug. 8, 1958. Ron and Patty had four children, Steve (1959), Dan (1961), Michelle (1962) and Eric (1965). Ron passed away on May 30, 1977. Patty married Howard Smith on Jan. 18, 1980, and they were married until Howard’s passing on Nov. 15, 2007. 

Ron and Patty were successful farmers and worked as a team to eventually purchase their own farm on Avenue E where they raised their children.

Howard and Patty loved to travel and took many trips in the states and abroad. Her favorite hobbies were bridge, gardening and watching her birds. Patty was above all, a devoted mother. Her family will remember her for her strength, intelligence, quick wit and her ability to tell you how it is whether you wanted to hear it or not. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Dorothy Beier; siblings Nancy Argento, Ron Beier, Jerry Beier; and husbands, Ron Burgener and Howard Smith. 

Patty is survived by her sister Kathy Beier; children Steve Burgener (Kathy), Dan Burgener (Lori), Michelle Marker (Charlie), and Eric Burgener (Julie); grandchildren Jessica, Jenna, Clay, Alex, Samantha, Gus, Hudsen, Ricky, Roni and Olivia; and great-grandchildren Brayden, Hugh and Norah; and special niece Traci Metzler and nephew Scott Argento (Schelley). 

A celebration of Patty’s life will be Memorial Day weekend 2025. Donations may be made to Backpack Blessings of Powell, Wyoming.
