Raynold W. Jurgens died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 at Powell Valley Care Center. He was 87.
Raynold was born Oct. 10, 1924 in Cortland, Neb. He lived most of his life in Nebraska until 2003 when he moved to Powell. Ray held many different jobs through the years including that of sheriff. He joined a harvest crew and worked with them in many different states until he retired. He moved to Red Cloud, Neb., and then decided to move to Powell to be near his sister.
Ray loved to do his crafts. He made crosses out of cigarette packages and made dogs out of yarn. He especially loved to play with The Travelers band at the care center on Tuesday nights.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Donna (Ramsey) Jurgens, infant son Terry Jurgens, oldest son Robert (Jurgens) Cook, his parents Jesse and Fannie (Waltke) Jurgens, sisters Tena Johnson, Inez Schlichting, Laura Fredenberg, and brother Willard Jurgens.
He is survived by his daughters Myrna Jurgens Cook of Scottsdale, Ariz., Debbie Jurgens (Bob) Atkinson of Lincoln, Neb, son James Jurgens Cook of Washington, sisters Josephine (Marvin) Eden of Beatrice, Neb., Viola (Frank) Barnard of Powell, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Thompson Funeral Home in Powell. Viewing is Thursday, Feb. 2 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and one hour prior to services Friday. Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
