Richard Henry Slater, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on January 19, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on September 18, 1946, in Redding, California, Richard lived a life filled with service, passion, and love for his family.
Serving honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Richard exemplified a commitment to his country that was echoed throughout his life. Upon returning from military service, he dedicated many years to working in the oil field, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.
Richard’s interests extended far beyond his career. He was a proud founding member of the 4c's Car Club , where he fostered camaraderie. An avid musician, he played guitar with the Wyoming Fiddlers and often shared his love of music with those around him. Richard also cherished his time fishing and riding his Harley Motorcycle, seeking adventure and tranquility in equal measure when riding with the Legion Riders.
He was dearly loved by his family, including his devoted wife, Wilma Slater. Richard is survived by his sons, Geoff (Melissa) Slater, Robert Slater and David Slater and daughter Billie Johnson. He also leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Olivia (Robert) Capron. A proud grandfather, Richard is survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom, humor, and affection.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Francis Slater, and his mother, Dorothy Paxton, as well as his son-in-law, Jesse Houck, and his beloved dog, Banjo, who remained a loyal companion throughout his life.
Richard Henry Slater's legacy is one of love, resilience, and dedication. He is remembered fondly by all who had the privilege to know him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
