Robert LeRoy Barnes was born in Powell, WY on February 26, 1926 to Roy Barnes “Rocky Mountain Cowboy” and Frances LaFollette Barnes. As a toddler the family lived on a farm just below the Bench where he started his mechanical endeavors. His dad and granddad had set-up the cultivator and left for a bit. On their return all the cultivator parts had been removed and neatly piled back up as they were before set-up.
Bob married Phyllis Patricia Singer on March 9, 1950. During their early married life they could be seen touring the roads and mountain trails on Bob's Harley.
Bob worked at various occupations during his life. He worked at his dad's Husky gas station, backhoe operator in Elk Basin, in the Powell City Engineering Department, MDU, and frequently as a carpenter. Bob was one of the best finish carpenters in the area at the time.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, and fishing and was a member of the Big Horn Basin Boat Club. The family enjoyed weekends at Buffalo Bill Reservoir boating and fishing. He was a member of the Powell Eagles Club.
He is survived by his sons: Jack and Daniel Barnes. Dan and his wife Rosemary live in Albany, OR. Their son Christopher Barnes and daughter, Amanda Barnes both live in Portland, OR.
Jack and his wife, Linda live in Powell, WY. His daughter, Jackie and her husband Monty Mosegard and their family live Powell. Younger daughter, Kristina, husband Scott and family live in Three Forks, MT.
Bob was grandpa to four great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 10:00 at Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials can be sent to Powell Valley Hospice.
