Robert Carroll Hatcher

June 25, 1944 – December 2, 2024

Robert Carroll Hatcher, 80, passed away peacefully at his home on December 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born on June 25, 1944, in Gilmore, Texas, to Laura May and Robert M. Hatcher. He was the youngest of seven children.

As a young boy, Robert lived in Texas and New Mexico. At the age of 18, his father drove him to La Barge, Wyoming, where he began working in the oil fields. It was there that he met the love of his life, Carolyn Spomer. They were married on February 20, 1963, and their blissful marriage lasted 61 years. To this union, two daughters were born: Laurie Lee and Gayla Kay, the light of their life.

After serving in the military, Robert returned to the oil field, working for Dick’s Well Service. Later, he started B & R Well Services. When the oil industry slowed, he sold his rigs and attempted retirement. However, retirement didn’t last long, and he embarked on new adventures.

Robert’s love for team roping began in 1972 and took him to many places. He was a cowboy at heart. Luke Carter became his header, special friend, and partner in countless adventures, sharing 52 years of friendship filled with roping, fishing, and camaraderie. Luke was by Robert’s side during his final days.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert M. and Laura May Hatcher; brothers, Leonard, Grady and Ray; sisters, Bobbie and Jean; and grandson, Wesley Johnson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; daughters, Laurie (Jim) Johnson and Gayla Johnson; a sister Sandra; grandchildren, Chantell McNeil, Cassidy (Ashlee) Reel and Wendy Johnson; great-grandchildren, Myles, Kamdyn, Brycen, Everlee, and Hailee; and his special friend, Luke Carter.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM with a viewing one hour prior to services at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell, WY. With a reception to follow back at the church.

Pallbearers include Cassidy Reel, Jim Johnson, Jeff Carter, Bryce Hatcher, Myles Reel, Chantell McNeil and Honorary Pallbearer Luke Carter.

Donations may be made to The Toby Keith Kids Korral Cancer Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Yellowstone Home Care and Stillwater Hospice for their exceptional care, as well as Dr. Collins and the staff at the Infusion Center—your kindness will never be forgotten.
