Ruth Teuscher Thompson

Ruth Teuscher Thompson, 89, passed away in Montpelier, Idaho at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital on September 3, 2024. Ruth was born November 18, 1934, in Kemmerer, Wyoming to Wallace and Minerva Teuscher. She was the eighth of nine children.

Ruth's early education was in Kemmerer, Wyoming until she moved to Montpelier, Idaho in 5th grade. From there she continued learning until she graduated from Montpelier High School. She married Gary Kay Thompson on June 12, 1953, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They lived their entire married life in Georgetown, Idaho.

Because Ruth was skilled in shorthand and typing, she was employed by an attorney in Montpelier, Idaho shortly after their marriage. She worked as a secretary, clerk, and dairy cow milker in addition to being a wife and homemaker. She loved the dairy cows and milked as many as 120 cows at the peak of the dairy operation. After leaving the dairy business, she worked at the ASCS office in Montpelier, Idaho for many years. The farmers loved her because she could relate to them and their farming enterprise.

Ruth was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. During her lifetime, she served in a variety of callings. She was still serving in the Sunday School teaching the 12–18-year-old class until into her 80's. The youth really liked her because she made them feel important and that they were worthwhile. She had a talent for connecting with others.

She and her husband Gary served a full-time mission in the Riverside California area and 15 years as Temple workers in the Logan Utah temple. She and Gary were married for 67 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Jolene (Bill) Carter of Syracuse, Utah. Jan (Bill) Shirley of Georgetown, Idaho. Marti (Bret) Kunz of Montpelier, Idaho. Tamra (Ron) Caudill of Ririe, Idaho and son Syd (Kim) Thompson of Powell, Wyoming. She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren and her 37 great-grandchildren (with two on the way). She is also expecting a great great grandchild in January of 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gary, her siblings, Lorna, Carol, Shirley, Vaughn, Lothair, Lowell, Marilyn, and LuJean , and one stillborn daughter.
